ATL

Le boyfriend and I took a short trip to Atlanta, GA this weekend. A photo diary of our trip...

View from our hotel room at the Downtown Marriott Marquis. So glad we made it out before the "big" snow storm came through. (They were expecting 3 inches.)

Dinner at TWO Urban Licks. This place had an amazing atmosphere, with an open wood-fire kitchen, funky decor, including enormous tropical flowers and a peacock mural, and the restaurant had a unique wine barrel program built by hand by the owner. The wine wall is over 25 feet tall, with stainless steel barrels utilizing a gravity flow system. And check out the live rotating rotisserie. Wowza. Sounds good to me.

Dirty Martini at Rathbun's while waiting for our table. This restaurant was delicious! I highly recommend to anyone going to Atlanta. Built in an old warehouse, the deconstructed decor was off set by delicious Greek and Asian infused cuisine (yes, both! They had saganaki and sashimi on the menu). Dinner was so good I only snapped one shot from the bar. Oh, and P.S. there is also a steakhouse owned by Chef Rathbun just down the street!

Blind Willie's blues bar in the Virginia Highlands... After stopping in Limerick Station to watch the end of the Colt's/Jet's game (le boyfriend's idea) we scurried next door to this incredible blues/jazz club. The ambience was so uplifting, with all walks of life enjoying the soul music in a cozy dimly lit bar. We scored seats right at the end of the bar facing the stage and were able to dance to some classics. The woman, I forget her name, came on to sing a few songs into the set and blew my mind. The energy in Blind Willie's is infectious. Great for a date night, but beware, seating is limited!

I'll end with some photo opts of our hotel. It was like living in a space ship. We stayed on the 22nd floor, which was small potatoes compared to the PH on the 52nd. Very visually pleasing... Can you name the body parts le male and I attributed the first two photos?

Biker Bar

Tonight I tried a new local spot for dinner with le boyfriend... Peter's Inn. Over the holidays a neighbor had mentioned, while passing time with the ubiquitous elevator chat, that there was this great small restaurant/bar in Fells Point that used to be a biker bar back in the 80s and 90s, and has since transformed into a coveted dining destination for local foodies.

The place is a bit disconcerting at first glance, situated on a darker side street in the historic, and therefore old, neighborhood in Baltimore. Even le boyfriend was hesitant to go in, but, like books, you can't judge a restaurant by its cover. Inside was itty bitty. Probably 7 tables total with a long bar that took up 2/3 of the front space. The decor is hysterical, I noted a Christmas light covered swordfish, prothetic legs, and Christ paintings covering the walls. The food? Delicious and relatively inexpensive. AND the restaurant strives for the farm to table mentality that is ever present and all the rage in hip restaurants these days. The handwritten menu changes weekly, after the "harvest" is gathered, and you can sign up here for email updates that come out every Monday with the new menu for the week. I got the Duck Confit over frisee with lardons and pears in a tarragon vinaigrette. Le boy got the Lamb Chops in a bordelaise sauce over mashed potatoes. Very tasty, and I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an off-the-beaten path restaurant in Baltimore.
