Just Dessert

Can we talk about the most amazing dessert du jour that is taking over the patisserie industry? MACARONS! Absolute perfection. Not like the kind your old Aunt Gertrude made last Christmas, with the shreds of coconut in an ugly heap of confectioners sugar (those were MacarOOns)... The former dessert, a crunchy, puffed up shell of a pastry usually stuffed with a gooey creme filling are the most adorable little balls of merriment I have ever seen.

In Baltimore, Patisserie Poupon, a charming little French bakery off Baltimore Street (east of President St. and away from the smut of the strip clubs), is the place to buy them, offering small selections of 4 or 10 counts and also available by the pound. These desserts make fantastic hostess or housewarming gifts, as they are completely irresistible. I'm off to watch Alice in Wonderland and stuff my face with some almond and chocolate flavored Macarons, strictly research of course... let me know of other patisseries offering this delectable treat!
